Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between exterior waterproofing and interior fixes?
Exterior waterproofing seals the outside of the foundation wall: we dig to the footing, clean the wall, apply Blueskin membrane and Platon dimple board, backfill in compacted layers and grade away from the house, so water never reaches the wall. Our waterproofing process → Interior fixes manage water that has already come through. For water coming through the walls, fixing it from the outside is usually the most complete solution. Yes. Exterior waterproofing is our first choice because it stops water at the wall before it gets in. When digging outside isn't practical, like under a deck, driveway, addition or a tight side yard, we can waterproof from the inside, managing the water with an interior drainage system that carries it to your sump. We'll tell you honestly which one your home needs.
What does an estimate include?
Every job gets a free, written estimate after a site visit. Items like weeping tile replacement, window wells, extra depth and hardscape removal are quoted separately if needed. Your written estimate shows every line, plus HST.
Are estimates really free?
Why does my basement leak when my neighbour's doesn't?
Every house is different: foundation type, age, grading, downspouts, the condition of the weeping tile, and how the soil around it drains. Heavy clay soil like ours holds water against the wall, so small weaknesses show up fast.
How do you stop basement flooding?
It depends on where the water comes from. Seepage through walls and cracks is fixed from the outside with exterior waterproofing, crack repair and grading. Sewer backups through the floor drain need a licensed plumber with devices like backwater valves. Flood Protection →
Can every crack be fixed from inside?
No. Interior injection works well for accessible cracks in poured concrete. Cracks behind finished walls, or in certain wall types, may need an exterior repair. We'll recommend the simplest fix that will last. Crack repair →
What warranty do I get?
Waterproofing comes with a written warranty for 25 years from completion, covering membrane and drainage failure and water getting in through the area we waterproofed, plus our own 50-year guarantee that it won't leak. Crack repairs carry a 25-year warranty, and parging carries a 5-year warranty, both on labour and material. Warranty →
When can you do the work?
We dig 12 months a year. Masonry needs cold-weather protection below about 4 °C. We give estimates all year too.
How long does a job take?
What about my lawn, gardens and patio?
We agree up front on what we'll protect and how the site will be restored. Grade is restored after backfill. Removing and replacing decks, patios, interlock or concrete is quoted separately so there are no surprises. Sod or seeding is included to restore your lawn.
How do I pay?
